Hi New Milford, 

Many New Milford High School seniors, including myself, have felt negatively about the confirmation that we will be having a parade as our graduation. The graduation parade was held last year for the Class of 2020, and was appropriate given the circumstances. It seems that we will be getting back to some sort of normal soon as restrictions are being lifted within the next month. The majority of the student body believes that seniors should be given the opportunity to have a more formal graduation, either on the turf at the high school, Westconn, or even at another outdoor area in New Milford. Some other locations could be Youngsfield Park or the town’s green. While a parade seems fun, it is very stressful for many families, and it is not what the students want. As seniors, we have had nothing. We have been separated from ours peers and isolated in our homes. We want to experience one of the biggest milestones to the fullest, and we cannot do that with the parade. We want to watch our classmates receive their diplomas, and listen to our peers speak on their time at the school. This is VERY important to us and we hope that we can come to a better compromise as soon as possible. Many are open to the idea of creating a committee to plan a more formal and safe graduation to please everyone. Thank you.
