Today, we are bringing forth this petition to end the "slap on the wrist" punishment for drivers who critically injure cyclists, pedestrians and others due to "reckless driving". How often do you hear of our citizens injured in New Mexico due to reckless driving? Too often. How often are these people, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, someone's child, permanently left debilitated due to careless human beings. Far too often. We see too many ghost bikes, roadside funeral sites, and pictures of those taken far too soon. Enough is enough! No longer can we allow these people to get away with their moments of bad judgement leading to years of another families pain. What we are proposing is holding these drivers accountable for their actions. Making them liable for hospital costs and any other expenses incurred. We also want mandatory drivers license suspension and have them face a system that will penalize them for their neglect and educate them to promote safer driving skills.

 We ask that this be proposed and that this become law. How many more of our athletes, children and loved ones pass before we say enough is enough. I thank you for your time.
