Sports of all kinds ( including full contact) have been allowed to start back up. But those are extra curricular activities. Music EDUCATION has not been allowed to resume normal activities. 

Music and arts students are missing out on opportunities for scholarships just as much as our athletes. Many people are saying that athletes need to be able to play because it is their outlet and their mental well being needs to be taken into consideration. Well, not everyone plays sports and the mental well being of our music student also needs to be taken into consideration. 

The biggest issue though, is that music is NOT extra. There are State curriculum standards that are not being taught due to not being allowed to play instruments and sing. 

There are plenty of studies that show it can be done safely. But the NM DOH does recognize those guidelines even though the CDC does. Parents of athletes put the pressure on the state. It's time that parents of music and arts students do the same.
