Bring back and Give Cary Fukunaga what he needs to adapt Stephen King's "IT"
The Issue
This petition is for those of us who have a passion for film and artistry. A great novel by Stephen King was getting ready to be made into a two part film directed by Cary Fukunaga until a disagreement between Cary and New Line/WB arose concerning budget cuts and/or creative differences. Cary Fukunaga is a true artist and filmmaker who would've breathed new life into the almost waning horror genre. Studios have for too long given little respect and faith into the horror genre. This re-adaptation of one of Stephen King's most dark, epic and spellbinding novels, IT, would be a milestone in filmmaking and a big step for the horror/thriller/monster genre. The next "The Shining" or "The Exorcist". I wish to start this petition for many reasons. One because so many of us have grown up relating to Stephen King's novels and to all the tragic, dark, good and evil characters throughout his works. This two part film which was taken by Cary Fukunaga as his new project (mainly because he himself grew up as a fan and admirer of King's novel and works) would finally make a film we can all be proud of. Not only as horror fans, or even film buffs; but as life long fans and admirers of King and only wanting to see a deep and truthful adaptation of one of his best and darkest novels. To see all the hard work Cary put into making this happen only to see him walk away because of money concerns is a travesty and insult to true artistry. Especially to all of us who have been waiting years for these films to come into fruition only to be stopped in its tracks for almost petty reasons. This project shouldn't be treated as another low budget cash grab for a major studio who can afford to give more to a filmmaker in order to accomplish his vision. If another filmmaker is hired on to do this with too much meddling from a studio, this film can and will fail and we will be, once again, stuck with a bad (supposed) horror film. If enough of us can get together and sign this petition, maybe somehow someone will hear us and think twice before completely writing off Cary Fukunaga and his vision. These studio heads just need to know that not only does horror, Stephen King, Cary Fukunaga and IT have their devoted fans; but that there still some of us out there who want quality filmmaking in our (horror) films.
