To Whom It May Concern,                                                              September 4, 2020

My name is Sakar Michel and I gladly accept whatever consequence I may face by writing this petition. My intention is not slander, but to tell the truth and point out the problem as well as to hopefully solve it together with your help.
I currently attend New Jersey Institute of Technology. This school is known for producing exceptional graduates through rigorous academic programs. Ask any NJIT alumnus or student and they will tell you about the "rigorous" professors or the number of times they had to retake a class or how close they came to failing if it was not for the curve.

Essentially, NJIT is producing resilient students who do not give up when facing great trial and tribulation, but students who speak up, join hands together (six feet apart), and tackle their problem head-on, whether it is physically, mentally, or emotionally.

Being one of many NJIT resilient students, I must speak up and say, "It is not right nor fair for NJIT to charge the same tuition rate of $14,448 and the fee of $3,226 as last year for two semesters especially in this time of COVID-19 where an unprecedented number of people (students included) have lost their jobs. One semester cost, $7,224.00 for tuition and $1,613 for fees. For international students, the cost is $30,160 for two semesters and $3,226 for fees. One semester cost $15,080 for tuition and $1,613 for fees.

The signees and I are petitioning NJIT to reduce one of the following things: the tuition, the fees, or even both. If you, NJIT, are not willing to reduce the fees please consider paying for all the students' books or providing other resources to lift the financial burden. Please don't just say apply for a scholarship via our scholarship portal that you created. That is not enough in my humble opinion. If you do not like my suggestion, I am willing to listen to yours. Thank you for taking the time to read this petition.

Sincerely,
Sakar Michel
NJIT student
