Rename the Christopher Columbus Highway

Rename the Christopher Columbus Highway
The Issue
The New Jersey Department of Transportation recognizes Interstate 80 as the "Christopher Columbus Highway."
Without putting too fine a point on it, Christopher Columbus is historically recognized as a murderer, slaver, and rapist. In good conscience, we should cease to honor his crimes against humanity in the naming of our public works.
Instead, I urge the state of New Jersey to see this as an opportunity to rename the highway after a New Jersey hero. Thousands of Americans drive across this highway every day. At such a small cost to the taxpayer, officials can make a meaningful change while honoring instead those who lived in service of making their New Jersey great.
Please sign my petition if you think the State of New Jersey needs to rename the Christopher Columbus highway. Thank you.
