Terry Peifer started this petition to State of NJ NEW JERSEY ATTORNEY GENERAL and

Please sign this petition to ask the NJ Attorney General and the Governor to open a full and complete investigation into the needless killing of Chrissy within the seven day hold by the Humane Society of Atlantic County.  The Humane Society said it was not "Intentional", yet they euthanized her within hours after being surrendered by her distraught owner who had fallen on hard times due to the pandemic and wanted to make sure Chrissy found a good home.

The Atlantic County prosecutors office and the New Jersey Department of health both excepted the “I was confused defense.”

Steve Dash, Director of the Humane Society of Atlantic County needlessly killed a Chrissy within hours of her surrender by her owner that had fallen on hard times during the pandemic because he was "CONFUSED" about the law and the New Jersey authorities so far are perfectly fine with that excuse.

Steve Dash's resume:
• Executive Director of the Humane Society of Atlantic County Since 1991
• Former NJ Humane Enforcement Officer of the NJSPCA
• Former Member of NJ Animal Welfare Task Force
• NJ Domestic Companion Animal Council Since 2008
• NJ Domestic Companion Animal Council Chairman since 2012
• Current Council member in Egg Harbor City

Chrissy

  • was adopted from the Humane Society of Atlantic County on November 1, 2013.
  • used the Vet Clinic at the Humane Society of Atlantic County (they knew she was not aggressive)
  • was 12 years old
  • was surrender due to her owner falling on hard times during the pandemic and wanted to make sure she had a good home.
  • was not aggressive nor sick

FACTS:

  1. NJDOH had sent out Alerts to all shelters in 2012 when the law changed. Then in 2015 they sent out another alert.
  2. The Humane Society promoted owner surrender on their website by saying: "The Humane Society of Atlantic County wants you to know that it is okay to surrender your animal if you are unable to provide for it anymore.  Sometimes things happen that are beyond your control, and by surrendering your pet to us, you can be sure we will make every effort to fine them a loving home." (Have since taken this down)
  3. The attorney for the Humane Society of Atlantic County stated it was their practice to euthanize older dogs and that they agreed Chrissy was not sick nor aggressive.
  4. Chrissy was needlessly killed on 4/22/21 by the Humane Society of Atlantic County.

We believe the Humane Society of Atlantic County lied to a prosecutor by telling them they were confused, since they had been advised twice before and had been a Humane Enforcement Officer commissioned by the State of NJ.  We believe they had to know that the law states it is illegal to kill any animal during the 7-day hold period unless there was total incompetence.

The Humane Society needlessly killed Chrissy within Hours of her surrender.

Please help us ask the NJ Attorney General to open a complete and full investigation on the death of Chrissy and how many other animals were needlessly killed in the last 9 years after the law had change.   (We have all the documents to prove each one of these facts)
