Allow Union Beach Residences to Foster Animals

Allow Union Beach Residences to Foster Animals
The Issue
"As a proud Union Beach resident, I help animals, people, and my community to make it a better place to live. I am passionate about my town, and the people with whom I share it. Many of the residents in town have adopted dogs from me before, and if not, they know of me as someone who is very involved in the RESCUE community. Several local dog rescues operate solely through foster homes. These rescues are responsible for saving the lives of COUNTLESS dogs throughout the years. Without FOSTER CARE, the amount of dogs euthanized per year would multiply exponentially. By ordinance, Union Beach, New Jersey residents are only allowed three (3) dogs per household. Each dog must be licensed annually before March 1 (www.ubnj.net As someone with 3 dogs already, this ordinance makes it ILLEGAL for me to temporarily foster a dog in my home while searching for a permanent loving family. Fostering is so important for so many reasons! Most importantly, each dog that makes it into foster care is one less dog that ends up dead because the carelessness of our species. Foster dogs should not be considered permanent dogs in the home. Please sign this petition to change this rule so I, and so many selfless residents, can legally care for the helpless dogs looking for love and a forever home. There are so many bigger issues in our town and in our county- and I believe the focus of our local authorities has been misdirected. We need to find our compassion, and agree to a change! This ordinance was created when our great town of Union Beach was just a “bungalow town.” We have come so far from that- let’s take one step further to keep the kill numbers of potential family companions down. All dogs deserve a fighting chance, and that’s what we aim to give them! Let’s all think back on a fond memory we’ve had with a dog, and realize how important the role is that they play! Allow temporary fostering of adoptable dogs in Union Beach! "
