Update 2/28/24- here we are again with the same goal. We need to remove Coach Fraser from the Boys basketball program and bring back Coach Lataille and Coach Gill. JV went 19-1 this 23-24 season under Lataille and varsity didn’t have any players quit for the first year in a few years and actually made it to quarterfinals with the support of Coach Gill. Coach Fraser decided to fire the two coaches that actually made this program the best it could be. Make it make sense. Now, here we are again, trying to fight for this program. These kids should not be given ultimatums or be bullied or threatened. Kids are being told if they don’t play with Coach Fraser under AAU that they can’t play for Deltona High school basketball. These are two different things, so many violations. These kids just wanna play basketball, and the love of the game is being sucked away from them. 

I am starting this petition in an attempt to save the Varsity basketball program at Deltona High School for the 2023-2024 school year.

Despite all the talent that has touched the floor over the last few years, we have failed to retain our talent due to the current head coach in place.  We have had numerous of incidents and athletes quit under the coaching of Brad Fraser. Varsity went from 16 to 8 players one month into the season this year with 2 of those players that left being seniors and one athlete transferring schools mid-year. Most Varsity players right now do not plan on returning to Deltona High and our JV team continously makes comments that they do not want play for Fraser next year. Our program is declining and as parents of these athletes, we would like to see a new head coach so our kids can attend their community school and play amongst their peers and have an opportunity to develop and be coached effectively.

Coach Richard Lataille has done a great job with JV season thus far and Coach Jason Gill has done all that he can to keep the pieces together this year with Varsity as the assistant coach which is why most of these kids are trying to stick it out until the end of the season. Coach Gill is respected by players and parents alike and makes every effort to help these boys develop on and off the court, and that is what we need here at Deltona High for a Varsity head coach.

All in all, we would really like to see a great program here at Deltona High school. Our community kids should not have to go to another school to receive the quality coach and development they need. We have so much potential here at Deltona High but need the right people in place to retain that talent and take us to the next level. Unfortunately, we cannot do anything about the seniors whose opportunity was taken away this year, but we can impact those students who should be retuning next year and the future generations to come. Change is needed.
