Let’s shut down fishing from the Corbett’s Dam in Port Hope to the CN bridge. 
For decades we’ve hated how exposed and easily fished the fish are in the Ganaraska River from the Port Hope Dam to Lake Ontario. 
The amount of fish being taken or discarded for roe has turned into nothing short of a tragedy. It’s time for change! 
The steps in town as we call them are just too easy to fish. There are no obstructions. The amount of fisherman has risen dramatically. The warmer weather, lower water levels and the amount of fish running has created the perfect storm. Its ugly. It’s time for change. 
A large group of us recently cleaned up the river after the Salmon run and what we found was horrific. The amount of garbage , fishing line and hooks was mind blowing. It’s time for change. 

We cannot let this continue. The fishing and lack of respect for the river has gotten out of hand. It’s not safe to walk over thousands of hooks (not exaggerating) . People have stopped coming to see the salmon / Port Hope because of the butchery. Its affecting our image and tourism. 
The salmon run should be a positive celebration and I’ve tried to do that with my Run Salmon Run celebration but I need your help! Imagine where we could go with this if we didn’t have a slaughterhouse in town!? 
There are ways to make this happen. We have to pressure the right people and this petition will help.
