We leapt over 60,000 yesterday - what can I say other than a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has signed and those who have donated to help with circulation.
I had a torrid time on a local 'Next Door' site yesterday where bullying and misogyny abound but the effort was worth it because there are so many local people who feel the same way that we do. Some of the stupid comments included: "People are more likely to hit the ponies if they are looking at their speedometer" and "ponies will still die if they are hit at 30 mph" - perhaps it was a while since they read about stopping distances.
There was the usual prevarication technique of offering up every other method of slowing traffic down, arguments I have had with myself for many years but the whole purpose of an open mind is to be able to close it once an option has been considered and ruled out for practical reasons.
This week there should be an article in the Horse and Hound - a bit like preaching to the choir, and uncomfortable for those that disapprove of hunting, but nevertheless more publicity in a weekly horse magazine which we desperately need.
I have yet to receive an acknowledgement of my original email to the authorities from Donna Jones, the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Steve Avery the CEO of the National Park Authority (for whom I now have a direct email address) and Forestry England.
Next stop is the Council meeting on 11th October and then we can see where we go from there. There is usually a surge in collision figures when the clocks change at the end of October.
