Ordinance 704 dictates extreme rules with pet ownership in New Cumberland, PA. We as home owners and renters are now limited to four dogs or four cats, no pigs, chickens must always be fenced in and no longer free roaming, a permit for all exotic animals including but not limited to ball pythons, certain pocket pets, and more.

This ordinance poses a huge risk to so many of us that have multiple pets, many of them rescues. This could potentially affect those of us who foster pets as well. I know personally I have 7 dogs, 6 of which are rescues and are over 10 years of age with many health problems and getting rid of any of them is not an option.

Another issue with the ordinance is that there aren't any grandfather clauses and there isn't really any one to investigate the complaints. So basically someone can file a complaint against you and you simply receive the fine in the mail. There is no due process!

I highly believe that if our pets are licensed and vetted appropriate, their feces cleaned appropriately, and they are not a nuisance it should be no one's business the number of pets we have, especially if we own our home! We all pay taxes here. This ordinance can not be allowed to pass because so many furry family members will be losing their home! Vote for our New Cumberland legislature to make the right decision and deny the bill.
