New Bus Stop for Knowle Donkey Sanctuary

The Issue

At Knowle Donkey Sanctuary, we have a group of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about supporting our cause and aiding in the care  and enrichment of the donkeys. Unfortunately, some of these volunteers are unable to drive or face physical disabilities that make it incredibly challenging for them to reach the Sanctuary by public transport.

The absence of a nearby bus stop means that the closest option is situated approximately one mile away. For people with mobility issues or disabilities, traversing this distance is not just taxing but sometimes impossible. The route is plagued with areas where pavements are impassable, making it hazardous for anyone on foot and impeding accessibility.

This lack of access not only limits the involvement of our valuable volunteers but also deters visitors who are eager to support the Sanctuary, enjoy the surroundings and visit our beautiful donkeys. Encouraging more people to take public transport rather than relying on cars is better for the environment, it reduces congestion, and makes visiting the Sanctuary a more inclusive experience for everyone.

We propose the implementation of a local bus stop close to Knowle Donkey Sanctuary along the existing bus route. This would facilitate the safe and easy access needed for volunteers with mobility limitations and for the general public, encouraging more people to visit without having to use their own cars.

Establishing a bus stop would have multiple benefits: enhancing community support for the Sanctuary, encouraging volunteerism, and making the area more accessible and sustainable. Our aim is to make the Sanctuary a reachable and enjoyable place for all who wish to engage with it, regardless of their ability to drive or walk long distances.

We urge the local council and Transport for West Midlands to act on this request and provide public transport links that meet the needs of all residents and visitors in Knowle. Please sign this petition to show your support for an accessible and environmentally-conscious transportation option for Knowle Donkey Sanctuary.
