STOP THE USE OF SHOVELS ON OUR CLAM SHORES....

The Issue

The digging of clams with shovels has grown over the years.  What this does when you stick your shovel in the sand is kills 10 clams for every 1 you get.  This not only stops the growth of the clam but stops any further growth of the clam beds for the future.

When digging clams I have always been taught to get down on your knees, find a hole stick in your finger and start digging. Such fun for all ages.

One clam at a time.  This saves the eco system, but also gives the clam beds a better chance of surviving and growing.  Not to mention that when you are out walking the sand bars in low tide you don't step in a huge hole that was just dug up from shovels. Or cut up your feet when stepping on a broken clam shell.

Seeing all the broken clams that people have killed looking for a medium size clam MUST STOP.

Please help me save the clams for future generations.  Thanking you in advance from Atlantic Canada.
