Convince the NV Government to Enforce their Animal Cruelty Laws to Stop Pet Overpopulation
The Issue
About 7.6 million animals are brought into animal shelters annually in the US; yet, only 2.7 million are adopted with another 2.7 million being euthanized a year. Many people claim to be against animal cruelty, but buy pets from inhumane breeders/stores rather than assisting shelters in mitigating the pet overpopulation issue. What contributes to this is the common legality of these breeders, especially puppy mills. Even with the Animal Welfare Act of 1966, loopholes and lack of enforcement keep unethical breeders in business. The issue of pet overpopulation and animal cruelty in the US is one that is overlooked, and needs to be improved. This could be done by convincing the government to reinforce its animal laws and increase funding of animal shelters.
This petition is specifically for the local government of Nevada to assist in stopping pet overpopulation at a smaller level. They need to focus on removing inhumane pet breeders such as puppy mills, while also helping ethical breeders, stores, and shelters in lessening the out-of-control pet population. This is also a pledge to prioritize adopting from local ethical shelters when getting pets. If not, it is also to pledge responsibility when buying pets from stores and obtaining full knowledge of whether or not the pet was bred ethically and humanely. Thank you!
