THIS IS AMAZING NEWS - Bromley Council have put a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on trees along the tracks in their area.
Network Rail will now have to apply to the council for permission to chop down the trees and force the removal of the TPO, before any attempt is made to destroy the protected trees.
WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT NETWORK RAIL CAN'T JUST COME ALONG AND CHOP DOWN ANY HEALTHY TREES THEY WANT TO, WITHOUT OVERSIGHT AND LEGAL PERMISSION.
THEY WILL NOW HAVE APPLY TO THE COUNCIL AND STATE THEIR REASONS FOR DOING SO.
NETWORK RAIL WILL BE QUESTIONED AND BE FORCED TO ACCOUNT FOR THEIR ACTIONS TO MASS FELL HEALTHY TREES AND DESTROY THE BIRD, BAT AND WILDLIFE HABITAT, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT THE EVERYBODY KNOWS WHAT’S GOING ON... AND THAT IS THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE SIGNED AND SHARED THE PETITION.
IF WE ALL WRITE TO OUR LOCAL COUNCILS AND ASK THEM TO FOLLOW SUIT OF BROMLEY COUNCIL AND PUT A TREE PRESERVATION ORDER ON TREES ALONG THE TRACKS, IT WILL MAKE IT THAT MUCH HARDER FOR NETWORK RAIL TO CHOP THEM DOWN WITHOUT CONSULTATION OF THE COUNCIL AND LOCAL RESIDENTS.
We've already made massive progress, with the Department for Transport ordering an investigation into Network Rail's tree felling... writing to our councils will be another big step forward!
Thank you all for your support - together we can #StopTheChop! and save this precious established ‘Green Corridor’ habitat for our birds and our wildlife, which are at great risk of being totally destroyed by Network Rail’s total ignorance and non-caring attitude to Nature..
Many Thanks and Well Done to All
Ray Walton
