Reopen the railway to Silloth
The Issue
The historic town of Silloth has been without a railway since 1964.
An infrequent bus service serves the town with only around 4 buses a day. Sometimes they're so crowded passengers have to be turned away facing a wait of around 4 hours until the next bus.
The town with a population of 2,900 people and a destination for many tourists as well as numerous caravan parks within the town, would benefit from a railway running from Carlisle opening up numerous travel opportunities.
A railcar/DMU could run hourly from Carlisle connecting with trains on the West Coast Main Line for the use of commuters and tourists alike, reducing traffic on the local roads and in Silloth town centre.
