Reopen the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway

Reopen the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway
The Issue
The Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway was closed West of Keswick in 1966 and the whole line closed in 1972.
Since then the tourist town of Keswick in the heart of the lake district has had serious traffic problems with many visitors, walkers and daytrippers visiting the Lake District. It's also a problem for residents of Cockermouth and Keswick to make long journeys without a car as the bus service isn't great.
Reopening The Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway would solve a lot of traffic problems in this area of the Lake District taking many of the tourists cars off the road. The reopened line would have stations at Penruddock, Troutbeck, Threlkeld, Keswick, Bassenthwaite Lake and Cockermouth. A future extension to the Cumbrian Coast Line could be built at a later date.
As well as a local service running to a new bay platform at Penrith a few express trains could run daily to places further afield such as Manchester. Duing the Summer months steam specials could also be run as the line will be popular with tourists.
