Network Rail to allow use of Hi vis Shorts and remove mandate on Hard hats in hot weather

A problem for track workers on Network Rail infrastructure during the summer months is that they are forced to wear non task specific PPE such as full length trousers and Hard hats which leaves them at a much greater risk of over heating.
In most cases the mandated PPE serves no purpose as much of the work on the NR infrastructure has no risk of scaffolding or working at height related hazards.

My proposal is for the Network Rail team in charge of creating the rules and regulations on the railway infrastructure would reconsider its decision to make Hard hats mandatatory and also allow the use of Hi visibility shorts to aid in the reduction of dehydration and heat stroke related accidents.
