Network Rail plans to refurbish/ redevelop the Brixton Arches and evict over thirty Tenants/ Traders in the process. These evictions will:

✖ End livelihoods
✖ Terminate family businesses
✖ Destroy Brixton's cultural and historical heritage

The planned refurbishment/ redevelopment does not require the termination of Tenant's leases. Network Rail does not need to vacate and take possession of the Arches to carry out refurbishments. It is a choice. 

We believe that the termination of Tenant's leases is unjustified, unnecessary and is not the best interest of tenants/ traders and the wider community.

We demand that Network Rail ​does not terminate current leases held by tenants. 

Tenants and Traders are willing for leases to be "frozen" whilst necessary works are being carried out. The maintenance of current leases will guarantee the just and rightful return of Tenants/ Traders by ensuring that rents are not raised to unattainable amounts. It will also ensure that Tenants/ Traders are not subject to the 'Change of Use' which will legally prevent the continuation of some current businesses.
