The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Equality Act 2010 make it illegal to discriminate against users in respect of disabled access to transport such as buses and trains.

But travelling to and from Todmorden and Hebden Bridge and you'll find out what the railways think of the law.

Access for both stations is practically impossible for anyone with limited mobility; disabled, parents with young children, the elderly.

Of course they won't admit that; check out Network or Northern Rail's website or contact them and you are told just how accessible they are. The problem is access means phoning 24 hours in advance and then they won't give you access, just a taxi. As there are no disabled taxis in the local areas you have to wait for one to arrive from Huddersfield (which can take up to 3 hours, that's how long it took for one to arrive for me to get to a hospital appointment)!!

Is that reasonable? No way! As recent news has shown compaines and organisations are happy to ignore the law and just wait until someone takes legal action.

Lets persuade them to make BOTH these stations accessible to ALL. Lets encourage Network and Northern Rail into the 21st century!
