Introduce "Lillith" as a new playable character in Mortal Kombat X as future DLC
The Issue
This petition was created as a means to expose NetherRealm Studios, the creators of Mortal Kombat, to the character "Lillith", a brand new fully realized female cyborg type character that came about as a result of an intense love of the series along with fan feedback over the years. A significant amount of personal time has been spent developing this character and bringing her to life. It is my hope that NetherRealm could see the need and want for such a character and introduce her into official MK lore through Downloadable content for Mortal Kombat X.
About Lillith:
Lillith is a brand new character to Mortal Kombat, and fills the cyborg character archetype that is well known and loved in the series at this point. However, unlike the previous cyborg characters in Mortal Kombat, Lillith is female, and her origin and characteristics are radically different than any of the others. Most notably, while existing cyborg characters have been presented as nearly entirely mechanical, Lillith differs in that she remains almost entirely human with the exception of her life support system, but wears a powerful suit of mechanical power armor that serves to enhance her already fearsome fighting ability. Her unique origin is also key in setting her apart from the others: dissimilar to the Chinese Lin-Kuei cyborgs in established lore, Lillith is an elite warrior belonging to the “Shoga-Ryu”, a secluded clan of Japanese shinobi that is closely tied to the Shirai-Ryu, the more well known clan of fan-favorite character Scorpion. In this regard, while she maintains several elements of the distinctive modern Mortal Kombat cyborg look, her design lends to a much more Japanese mecha inspired appearance, which only further enhances her uniqueness. Beyond her appearance, her personality and story are every bit as unique and detailed…
As one who was unknowingly born with the destiny of being a protector of Earthrealm, “Sayuri Hikari’s” tale is special from the very early stages of her life. Having had a mother who was also a secret protector of Earthrealm, Lillith’s unnatural ability and strength of will had been passed down to her, though she would only find out about this as she grew into young adulthood and began to realize the extent of her power as exposed by the likes of her grandfather Yamino and the thunder god Raiden. As her destiny would eventually have it, early in her life she is gravely injured during a mission to capture a Lin-Kuei cyborg, yet is saved by her father Kenichiro, an advanced machinist who designed a life support system along with a suit of power armor for her called “Tsumi Kara Umareru”. With her new mechanics and powerful new suit of armor, Lillith became even more capable and continued along the path her destiny laid before her, soon after setting forth on a journey that would define the importance of her very existence; a path that would extend beyond even time itself. After a long series of gripping events, Lillith eventually finds herself thrust 25 years into the future, having been guided there by Raiden himself. It is there that she discovers her true identity as a protector of Earthrealm and beyond it.
Her complete origin story and all concept art, including weapon and armor details and alternate costumes, can be found here: https://shinrei737.wordpress.com/2011/08/16/lillith/
Her in-game characteristics, including proposed moveset and specials, variations, X-Ray, fatalities, and even character intro dialogue can be found here: https://shinrei737.wordpress.com/lilliths-in-game-kharacteristics/
As a Kharacter in Mortal Kombat X:
Lillith is intended to be a nimble, yet powerful character, as would be expected of a highly skilled shinobi wearing a suit of power armor. Belonging to a sister clan to Scorpion’s Shirai-Ryu, her Ninjutsu fighting style resembles his closely, though there are a few differences. She is slightly more acrobatic than scorpion, jumping, flipping and twisting through the air with elaborate punches and kicks with greater frequency, a feat she has little trouble accomplishing with the help of her physical enhancements. She is also at home low to the ground, quickly rolling and diving when need be. Being a master of shinobi weaponry, she is not afraid to wade in regularly. A variety of tools, including her forearm mounted plasma claws; her vibro-sword (which she uses with a back-handed style); her shuriken and her caltrops define her offensive capability, while her defensive and evasive capabilities, such as her cloak, repulsor field and thruster system round out her survivability.
Why Lillith should be in Mortal Kombat X:
For what may be a variety of reasons, (most notably story reasons), currently, there is no cyborg type character slated to appear in Mortal Kombat X, which is a shame as the cyborg characters of past titles have long been fan favorites. Lillith is intended to fill that gap and then some. Her origin story was written with a great amount of respect for existing Mortal Kombat canon, and manages to effectively explain why a cyborg character could, and should, appear in the new game, MKX. At the same time, she was developed to be different enough from pre-existing cyborg characters so as not to interfere with canon, should NetherRealm studios ever decide to include a "Lin-Kuei" type of cyborg character as well. Some details that support her inclusion in the series:
- She is a very serious female shinobi, or as they are known in Japan, "Kunoichi", and was designed with respect to actual real life shinobi, with a strong dose of Mortal Kombat magic on top, of course.
- Her primary color scheme is white, a color that is generally missing in Mortal Kombat character designs up to this point, particularly in the "ninja" lineup of characters.
- Inspired by characters such as "Samus" from Nintendo's Metroid series, Lillith was designed so as not to be entirely confined to her power armor, and is able to fully remove the armor, leading to interesting alternate costume options.
- She showcases the strength and potential of the warriors of EarthRealm: While her story details her destiny as a "Protector of Earthrealm", she was designed to show the natural strength of will, body, heart and mind in a person that leads to accomplishing great feats, as opposed to a heavy emphasis on supernatural powers. Instead of possessing abilities such as fireballs, telporting, or magics, her real power comes from her natural skill and training in addition to the equipment that was designed for her by her loving father, which also serves as a life support system.
- Her story ties her closely to Scorpion, a long time fan favorite character who up to this point has had little expansion in his core story. The addition of Sayuri "Lillith" Hikari, along with newcomer Takahashi Takeda, would serve to not only round out Scorpions tale beautifully, but would also add a bit more much needed Japanese flair to Mortal Kombat.
- While she would be a "DLC" character in Mortal Kombat X, she could easily be adapted to remain in MK lore, and if well enough received, would more than likely appear as a core part of the official storyline of future Mortal Kombat productions.
Thank you for taking the time to read this petition and consider Lillith. I truly hope that you can see, as I do, how much she would add to Mortal Kombat as a whole. Though I am well aware that NetherRealm typically does not accept fan created characters, I truly believe that they listen to fan feedback, and that if we don't try then the only answer we could ever hope to get would be no. So let's try! Please be sure to check out her story, concepts and all other information available, and should you feel inclined to do so, please sign the petition. Thank you very much.
