Fujin was introduced to the Mortal Kombat franchise in Mortal Kombat: Sub-Zero Mythologies (1997) as a boss NPC. He made his debut as a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat 4 (1997)/Gold (1999), and made another appearance in Mortal Kombat Armageddon.

He is Raiden's successor as Protector of Earthrrealm and took up the role in Mortal Kombat 4 ending, which was proven to be canon via Raiden's Mortal Kombat 4 ending where Raiden ascended to Elder God status while selecting Fujin as his successor to lead the new generation.

Since then, demand for Fujin has been on the rise due to his curious absence from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Once again, in Mortal Kombat: Deception, the God of Wind was given the cold shoulder. With corrupt Raiden going unchecked, Fujin should have been there to be the voice of reason.

After Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (2006), Fujin did not make an appearance again until Mortal Kombat X (2011), where he was an NPC. Since his appearance in MKX, demand for him has continued to climb.

With Raiden's corruption occurring again and being a target by his former Champion, Liu Kang, as well as the Keeper of Time, Kronika, in Mortal Kombat 11, it is more important than ever for Fujin to step up.
