[Cassie] “Everyone, Micronesia on three. One, two, three [all] The Federated States of Micronesia! [Cassie] Nope never gonna work.” as said on the show “Game On” on Netflix. A scene shows the Big Show family on their couch as they call out the name “The Federated States of Micronesia” and ended up being disappointed at how it sounded, ending it by saying ,”We better get something good next year.” Thus referring to the Federated States of Micronesia as bad ? Before the show was aired a  photo of the Big Show family on Instagram was immediately recognized by the Micronesian community. The Big Show family was pictured sporting matching t-shirts with the word Micronesia on it including the state flag. It was a proud moment for the island community since there was never anyone with any such recognition or platform to acknowledge our little nation let alone wear our flag and appear on a Netflix show. The photo was massively shared on social media by the Micronesian community as a sense of gratitude and excitement for the up and coming series.The show aired and this is what Allison Munn had to say about Micronesia. “ Every year the Ericsson’s get team U.S.A and we get some terrible country.” They were probably reading the script saying all that without having known the slightest thing about Micronesia, but this is way out of line. The Federated States of Micronesia is a group of islands in the Western Pacific Ocean.Our islands hold beautiful sites with deep history and are home to beautiful exotic plants and creatures, like the Pohnpei Lorikeets which is an indigenous species to the state of Pohnpei.It is a beautiful place, home to beautiful hardworking people, with their beautiful steadfast cultures. We are as advanced and civilized as we are cultural and true to our heritage.We are descendants of great chiefs and warriors who voyaged the seas and navigated the stars. We are a proud people , we take pride in our land our families and our home, our Federated States of Micronesia. Though composed of small islands, much smaller than the rest of the world, and unbeknownst to most, the Micronesian people will not tolerate being conceived and portrayed as a ,” terrible country.” Micronesia is an amazing place , and we love it here. We are greatly disappointed and will not stand be demeaned like this. From the Sokehs rock to the Rock islands in Palau, to the Sleeping lady of Kosrae, from the diver’s paradise in the Chuuk lagoon to Ebeye in the Marshall Islands and finally to Yap the land of Stone money, Micronesia deserves all the recognition and respect for anything and everything but , “ being a terrible country.”
