Netflix has been spending the better part of the 2020s trying to alienate its customer base with its business decisions but nowhere in their announcements does Netflix commit to improving their poor subtitles.

• Not telling customers the difference between language-translated subtitles vs. dubbing script captions.
• Skipping foreign dialogue that is pertinent to the story.
• Skipping English dialogue in foreign language stories.
• Skipping too many words which builds a character's personality and speaking mannerisms.
• Out of sync.
• Not captioning music lyrics.
• Skipping cultural references with no cultural comment at the top or by attempting to translate.
• Inaccurate and poor translations.

The lack of care Netflix gives to subtitles and captions at this point is contemptuous to their customer base who rely on it to be able to enjoy the endless library of films and TV shows.

One example is a foreign language TV show having 80 seconds of English dialogue and Netflix does not even try to pretend they care to put '[Speaks English]' - the screen is devoid of anything. For someone who has some hearing or auditory processing difficulties, perhaps turning up the TV will help, but for others with no hearing, those 80 seconds of plot are completely lost, the only option is captions which are not a true representation of the media once it goes back to the foreign language, as it's based on an English script instead of an accurate translate of the foreign language.

Demands

1. Netflix improves the captions and subtitles they provide and that they understand that captions are as much part of the content and product as some A-list star being cast.
2. Not only is completeness important, but so is accurate translation when it is foreign language being translated to English. Imagine some of the greatest literature globally and how it'd be if they were translated like how Netflix translates some of their content.
3. Make it clear for customers when the captions are actually of the DUBBED version and not the foreign-language to English version. E.g. the Squid Games saga.
4. It is also noted that Netflix doesn't then try to make it an excuse to increase costs because they should've been doing this properly years ago. They should not charge customers to access content equitably.
5. Have captions for English-version captions and another version for foreign language to English translation like the subtitles which are a truer translation.
6. Translate foreign language music and subtitle English language music. The makers of the media didn't add music just for fun, if there are lyrics, viewers should understand them as a full viewing experience.
