Please everyone share and encourage your communities to sign this petition. I've never done anything like this before and the support so far has been incredible, but we still have a way to go. I've received some flack online, generally in the shape of angry young men declaring: - That Brown has "done his time" - "leave him alone" - "you have to be careful with censorship" - "Netflix didn't make the documentary so why should they take it down" - "Kevin Spacey touched little BOYS, this is not the same!" Chris Brown has not served his time. He served a legal sentence of 5 years' probation, and 6 months community service (NB: no jail time). Considering Rihanna sustained major contusions to both sides of her face, a split lip, swelling, bruising, two black eyes and a bloody nose (and that's only the physical damage), he has not "done his time", nor shown any great deal of remorse for the incident and has since gone on to cause more unrest, and be a perpetrator of further violence. Chris Brown talks about the assault against Rihanna in this documentary, essentially victim blames her. By Netflix streaming the documentary, Brown makes money from those streams, hence is PROFITING from that assault. Netflix is enabling, normalising and excusing this kind of behaviour. Unfortunately, the documentary has already been made, and you'll still be able to see it (the DVD is available for purchase on Amazon as one Redditor graciously pointed out to me) and sadly other celebrities and musicians have come out in support of Brown in the documentary. But Netflix can be part of the broader solution! Remove the documentary. Don't excuse, encourage or enable violence in any form - in this case violence against women. And for the record, I don't excuse or endorse violence against anyone, nor sexual assault, rape, child abuse. There are A LOT of abuse and assault issues in Hollywood, show-business and in the music industry, and I am more than grateful for those who are speaking up and sharing their stories. In time, hopefully these cases of violence and sexual assault will diminish greatly. But something that may seem trivial to some, such as Netflix choosing to stream this documentary, in no way helps the cause. I'm so overwhelmed by those on board so far, including Pedestrian and Music Feeds who shared articles yesterday. http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/theres-petition-netflix-dump-chris-brown-documentary-kevin-spaceys-sacking/
