TV guide describes the ABC show The Family as: "A drama about a politician's son who, after missing for more than a decade, returns to his family."  It is so much more than that.  The politician is the mother and she is running for Governor of Maine when her son comes back.  In the 10 years he has been gone, she has taken up drinking.  Her other son also seems to have a drinking problem.  Her daughter seems to be the normal one until she shows up at church confessing to a large sin that she feels really guilty about.  Then there is the neighbor, Hank, the pedophile originally sent to jail for kidnapping the boy and released when the boy came back.  The cast of characters have so many layers and each week one of those layers peels away.  ABC has cancelled the show after 1 season and the mystery of where the boy has been, just who is the boy and who kidnapped him will never be solved unless we can get Netflix to pick up this show for season 2.
