In late November of 2018, Marvel’s Daredevil was canceled by Netflix after a critically acclaimed third season. This event marked the birth of the #SaveDaredevil movement with the overarching goal of seeing the return of as many of the original cast and crew as possible to a project which allows for their continued stories to be told.
In addition to this petition*, the official #SaveDaredevil campaign has hosted online fan events and physical meet-ups, made convention appearances, and kept a steady online presence across several social media platforms. There have been letter-writing campaigns to key stakeholders, online trending events, more than $12,000 raised for charity through various fundraising initiatives, and even a virtual #SaveDaredevil con! In September 2020, we premiered our official Daredevil podcast, #TalkDaredevil, and we also comment regularly on new developments through both English and Spanish-language videos produced for our YouTube channel.
Thanks in large part to the support of the #FandomWithoutFear – the hundreds of thousands of people around the world who support the #SaveDaredevil cause, including members of the cast and crew – we have seen real success come our way. December 2021 saw Charlie Cox officially return to the role of Matt Murdock in a brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent D’Onofrio reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in the Disney+ television show Hawkeye.
While these steps are very encouraging, and bring tremendous joy and excitement to the fans of the original Daredevil, we view them as just that: Steps in the right direction. We welcome and look forward to any and all of the multiple future appearances that have been rumored for Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, as well as the potential return of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Fisk.
