Add Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Martin, Family Matters, Moesha, Wayans Bros, Steve Harvey Show, A Different World, etc to your programming/streaming list.
The Issue
This petition actually started as a Facebook post by an old friend and classmate. The status requested info on achieving the change stated. I realized, the best and probably most appropriate way to actually get Netflix and others (Hulu, etc.) to notice the market place for watchers of those kind of shows would be to start a petition.
So, why these shows? Why not other shows? Well, because I'm sure there are people fighting for whatever shows they feel the need to add. I know Friends was just picked up. However, where is Friends for the urban community? What positive family image do we have that's not spun around reality TV and thus focusing on the more unsavory things that are happening.
We've lost it. Of course there are channels that stream some things. Like Martin... and occasional Living Single... But where is our archive. How do we fulfill our binge watching needs. Black(ish) people? Where do we go. The truth about black television is that we are quickly losing all our positive role models in television.
Is it so bad to want to have the opportunity to share the wealth of knowledge, and relate-able learning situations that these old programmings used to provide?
Sign this petition and let Netflix know that it's not just a handful of people who miss the old programming that we used to watch on ABC Family, UPN, WB, and CW. We miss TGIF with family matters and step by step. It's time to get the television back. And no... not revamps like Girl meets world. We need Boy meets world. We need Urkel.... Laura....Pam... Martin.... Gina... Moe.... Niecey.... Hakeem.....Principle Greer....
Please Netflix... "Do the right thing", bring back our urban programming from the 90s and early 2000s.
