**PARENTS PLEASE READ** I'm writing this in the hope many parents will see the damage SMA powdered formula has done to my baby girl and consider their milk choices. Breastfeeding wasn't something I was keen on personally, so I went for what I thought was the next best thing. SMA Gold from birth formula. And I'll be honest, never an issue, she was never ill, no health problems, she was a happy healthy growing girl. All until about a month ago. SMA had changed the packaging, I didn't think much of it. Apart from they had knocked off 100g and still charged the same price. Regardless of price, she quickly started become ill. She'd woken up on the Thursday with a fever, very clingy and twiney, she was the same all day, I blamed her teeth. Friday came, I had to get up and ready for work, I was getting her dressed for nursery and she came over really warm with a temp of 38, again I blamed her teeth. She went to nursery no problems. Within the hour I had nursery rang me in a blind panic I rushed to pick her up. She had became limp, lifeless and had a rocketing temp of 40 degrees. With the advice of the Doctor I took her straight to A&E within half an hour of being there she was admitted in. They couldn't work out why she was so warm, nor could they bring it down. She was projectile vomiting with a swelt up face. They did many tests on her and could not determine why she had gone downhill so quickly. She stayed in for 24h when the doctors decided they couldn't do much for her at hospital and we could continued the care at home. That was three weeks ago now. She has been so poorly since. With bouts of sickness, diarrhoea, rash, swelling, to name a few! Not to mention not being able to sleep, eat, or even play. To see your child like that is HEARTBREAKING doctors were well and truly stumped, they didn't have a clue why she was still so poorly. They started to test her some more and decided a week ago to test her for gastroenteritis. As they had suspicions that's what it was, in this time she had contracted a chest infection, in which they couldn't give her medication for until she had her test results back. So within that time she had to cope with a painful cough that kept her awake and made her very upset. Yesterday I noticed something after purchasing a tub of SMA and doing some research, they had changed the ingredients. She had a swelt tummy and wasn't eating still and when she did eat she was screaming in pain. I rang CHOC last night and explained my findings, a GP rang me within 20 minutes and told me stop giving her the milk immediately. To hear the words 'it's poisoning her system' is just unbelievable. This is what has been hurting my little girls body for over a month now. They decided to change the ingredients without any warning, they made the writing barely visible on the tin. And after much research, I found many other parents experiencing the same difficulties and going through the same troubles. After a lengthy discussion with her GP at 9pm last night, we made the choice to move her onto Aptimil. And what a change in 17 hours. She is sleeping, she's eating, her diarrhoea has pretty much gone! She's our little girl again. I'm writing this on here to warn other parents who could be going through the same thing. This isn't just an 'allergy' it's a problem. A big one at that. Goodness knows how many more tests she would of had to endure and how many more days and weeks of pain, all because she was using her normal milk. SMA are a joke. I've wrote a complaint to them personally and I will be sharing this with everyone I know and on various media sites. Please raise awareness. SMA POISONS. I'm just thankful my peaches is bouncing back!
