Dear Friends - I have been getting messages from many supporters from all parts of the world with the same concern, ‘what next?’, The answer to which I don't know myself but one thing I know for sure is we need more supporters to make it a strong petition. From observation and first-hand information from earthquake survivors in Nepal, it is clear that people are helping themselves to stand back on their own and are just content with shared tents and packets of foods (if they are lucky) not knowing things can be made much better, and they have no other choice either. After going through so much so soon without being able to pause and think, people tend to become less bothered about their future as they are constantly worrying about ‘today’. Also, living in a country with so much political instability for the past 2 decades with minimum facilities, people can become accustomed to live without them anyway and the effect is that they adjust their view of what is normal. It’s a dangerous path, because they become used to the poor governance, poor infrastructure and amenities that should never occur in this day and age. Their silent tears and moans are covered up by the hype of media portraying plans and pledges of politicians who are dishonest and are uncompassionate towards the sufferings of people. As days, weeks and months pass, and when foreign troops start to withdraw humanitarian assistance, things will blur out in the background and it will be too late to act and Nepal would go back to its previous state of hopelessness witnessing politicians wasting time fighting for power and that's it. The victims will be forgotten. We cannot let this happen or at least we can try to stop this from happening. This petition is on behalf of the people from the remotest places of earthquake affected zones, people who have lost families, hope, shelter, sources of income and have become seriously disabled and who have lost everything they had earned in their lifetime. This is not for people who are rich, comfortable and totally unaffected. So once again I request all supporters to share this petition so we can reach out to new supporters who are unaware about it. Let’s all do this for the sake of humanity once again. I personally thank everyone for your support from the bottom of my heart. ~ On a good note, voices have started to reach international media Link: http://www.theguardian.com/global-development-professionals-network/2015/may/15/nepal-donations-corruption-aid-accountability-transparency-international?CMP=share_btn_tw With hopes of seeing change soon. .................................................................................................................................. Example of petition success stories: # With 1,067 supporters British human rights researcher, Krishna Upadhyaya and photographer Gundev Ghimire were freed by the Qatar authorities (where they were researching the exploitation of migrant workers employed for the construction of FIFA World Cup 2022 stadiums.) # 700,000 signatures freed Ghoncheh from a prison sentence in Iran – she was jailed for watching men's volleyball match # Brazilians said enough is enough to rampant corruption - with over 1.6 million voices demanded that Senators kick out the Senate President, a disgraced politician under a cloud of corruption allegations. # One million people from around the globe signed Emily Clarke's petition, joining a chorus of international voices demanding freedom and justice for Meriam, a Sudanese woman who was sentenced to death because of her faith. # Almost 350,000 people signed a petition helping 93 families threatened with eviction, saved their homes. # 20,000 Russian citizens backed an Avaaz petition urging their government to back a UN resolution to get aid in, things started to change - Millions of Syrians had been trapped without aid for months with UN aid trucks sitting on the Turkish border, unable to cross as talks at the UN Security Council negotiations went nowhere # Ours is just the beginning. Let’s do it together to see a change.
