Ways to Improve Neopets

With all the recent updates over the last few years and the controversy around NFTs, it is extremely important for Jumpstart to listen to the members they are trying to support. The poll below is a list compiled by various users within Neopets Nation on things they may like to see to help improve the site.

Jumpstart has a goal of making money, as you would expect from any business, and are willing to go down any path of doing so. One way recently was via the Neopets Metaverse (NFT company), and the community did not respond well. This poll may be a useful tool for Neopets to review to allocate their focus in other directions while still incorporating NC. These added ideas and plots would also be used for bringing new players back to the website and hopefully give it a good pull once their new TV series is released.

Fixed Flash Content:

Neopets Flash content has been down for almost a year. This includes things like games, items, customization, and more. No Flash is one of the main reasons people are leaving Neopets. Keeping players is key to future sales and business growth within the website.

You can use the browser Waterfox to use Flash while you wait for conversions.

Games with Unique Prizes:

Games with unique prizes has been one of the biggest hits within Neopets; Habitarium and Keyquest being the biggest. Many users, I included, bought items in real life to get Keyquest tokens. Keyquest tokens were also able to be purchased directly through the NC Mall. The unique feeling of this was large because you can directly display them onto your user lookup, and it showed your dedication as player. Many of the prizes included were items that every day players wanted or needed and there was no item cap limit each day if you played; paint brushes, neggs, codestones, more.

While it is unlikely for these games to return, it is important to note that the community would love to have something similar. The game could be free, but you may get in game bonuses by purchasing small bonuses (much like the way people use Premium to fight in the Space Battledome).

New Merch Code Prizes:

New merchandize has been coming out regularly but the prizes are very limited to the same box. Many people love the merch, and many do not care for the merch, however, a lot of in game players do care about the prizes that come with the merch. I would personally want to invest real life money into new products just for the codes and would buy the product just for the codes or even just buy codes separately for my chance to win unique items. The codes would be unique much like back in the early 2000’s where the merchandize changed every season and there were different prizes with each kind of investment you made ($10, $15, $25 gift cards). This is a direct way for Neopets to boost it’s funding while appealing to its customers and would be easy to implement digitally.

New Avatars, Games, Items:

Lately the new content is primarily focused on new NC items, but you need other new products to keep people on the website and to bring new people in. These products make things interesting for everyone whether the items are wearables to petpets right up to new gaming content that is outside of Flash. If you want to make things more interesting, add a new avatar occasionally with the new content to keep the momentum booming; it can sometimes take minutes to find an avatar or it could take years!

Plots, Dailies and Events:

This is one of the most desired requests as it provides lore and story to all Neopets. While it may take work, the consistency brings people to the website. Plots are a great way to keep people playing but it can also be used to further the progress of the game. The last few events have always had a pay to play style when moving forward through the game but keeping some hidden secrets throughout is a good way to pique the interest on all those who participate if there is a unique prize at the end. This could be done in both pay to play (NC mall to unluck unique wearables) and free to play format.

Working Battledome:

Years ago, the battledome was one of the biggest portions of Neopets and people are still asking for it to be fixed today. While we understand that the current battledome cannot be fixed perhaps an alternative may be created. The battledome is a place where people can go and fight each other or other computer built fighters. A second portion could also be implemented for those wishing to fight via the Premium (Space Dome right now) or NC Mall section. This could lead to creating unique prizes to unlock new useful items. Those items could be consumable to helping your account (battledome tally in the past) or even your pet (battledome statistics, rankings, or even creating new pet skills and abilities).

New Skills and Abilities:

One recent, and very happy, addition to the website was ‘The Coincidence’ daily event. This event allows players to take common items daily to it and get random events that release unique prizes like Petpetpets. One new way to help improve game activity would be to add new skills or abilities to the website. Many other games allow you to train your character (or pet in this case) to do unique features in the game. Allowing players to make or create new items would be an excellent way to forward this movement and could be incorporated in a variety of different formats.

This gives all players something to work forward to and would make the market booming!

Updated Verbal Content:

This is a big thing for all players when it comes to staying on the website. The boards, guilds and Neomail all need a serious update to instant messaging. The text that can be discussed should also be reviewed when it comes to content as well; getting permanently silenced when someone checks on if you’re healing from an illness should not be the result.

Updated Pet Slots and UC Spaces:

This is your biggest source of income when it comes to NC Mall. If players could use this ability more productively on their main account, you will have more sales!

Two-Step Log-in for Authentication:

There have been times where Neopets has become compromised. Many newer devices now have the option of giving a two-step authentication process. Giving this as an option will allow players to choose how they wish to protect their accounts, possibly with safety questions upon logging in or another method outside of someone’s birthday.

Account safety is paramount for those who play, especially when real life money is being used.

A Neopets App:

Neopets applications have been successful in the past but have also been created halfway. If these apps are unique enough to be multiplayer and connect to your main account, there may be more interest in the playability. Unique prizes (see the previous section) could make this particularly useful for gameplay.

While pay-to-play is never ideal, there are ways that players could pay a bit to get additional boosts to help them succeed if there are solo playing versions (increasing skill productivity, an extra move, and so much more).
