Port Elizabeth's iconic Horse Memorial was the first of its kind in the world and has become a symbol of Port Elizabeth. It was erected in 1905 as a tribute to the 300 000 horses which died during the South African War 1899 - 1902 and as a reminder that "The greatness of a nation consists not so much upon the number of its people or the extent of its territory as in the extent and justice of its compassion".

We respectfully request the NMBM to restore the monument to its previous state and to properly secure and protect it through the erection of a fence and the use of CCTV.
