Our rights to Clean, Safe Drinking Water

The Issue

Calling all WARD 8 residents: Over the past months we have watched with increasing dismay, the deterioration of our water supplies and the lack of maintenance thereof. Despite the tireless efforts by our Cllr Gustav Rautenbach, the municipality continues to make one excuse after the other. We are in a precarious position. This directly infringes upon everyone's basic human rights (rate payers or not). It is in this vein (after clearing it with Cllr Rautenbach yesterday) that I call upon all residents of Ward 8 to stand together and most importantly to stand with our Cllr, to make ourselves heard. We are requesting a meeting with all relevant Metro officials. Once we have a date from them, a meeting will then be called at a venue to be advised, for Ward 8 before the proposed council meeting, so that we may all be aligned in our fight.  If after the necessary meetings with the Metro, which we will request, there is no firm undertaking and confirmed plan by the Metro to rectify this problem, we, the residents, will meet privately once again to discuss the future plan which will be implemented on a large scale to fight for our rights and the welfare of each other. Other wards are advised to please begin their own petitions with their respective Cllrs as we cannot unfortunately fight for the whole city. We can however make a difference in our Ward 8, which we hope and pray will be significant. I will also ask that those who have specific skills, e.g. lawyers, medical personnel, people to help administrate this process, those with knowledge of water and reticulation etc..... to help, that we may work as a team towards a reasonable and positive outcome. Private message me on 064 905 1833 should you wish to be added to the specific whatsapp group that will be created for this purpose, as well as your particular area of expertise. Please add your signature and full commitment to this very serious situation. Thank you, Di Attwell
