Campaign to Save the Maitai
31 mars 2022

The RMA process to decide about the developers' application (Private Plan Change 28) is underway.    Meanwhile the Nelson town plan; the '2022 Future Development Strategy' is open NOW for submissions.

Please have your say on FDS 2022
This is yet another extremely important opportunity to let NCC know (again) that we do not want huge subdivisions in the Maitai Valley.
Please DO make a submission to the 2022 Nelson Tasman Future Development Strategy (FDS) - it's even worse than the 2019 FDS - the draft 2022 FDS identifies 1100 potential housing sites in the Maitai.   As you’ll know the Kaka Valley (behind Denne’s Hole) is the subject of a plan change request for a 750 houses. Under the new FDS this would be upped to 900 houses, plus another 200 across the river (on the Sunday Hole side) for an area named Orchard Flats. (See attached map).
Please make a submission here before the 14th April 2022.

It is very easy and VERY IMPORTANT to submit on the draft FDS. Click on the link above, find "To make a submission Click Here"
All that is needed is to answer Question 22: "Do you agree with the location and scale of the proposed greenfield housing areas in Nelson? Please explain why."
OR you can simply send an email to: FutureDevelopmentStrategy@ncc.govt.nz saying you don't want greenfield expansion housing anywhere in the Maitai Valley, especially Kaka tributary or Orchard Flats.

Note: Submissions COUNT more than emails to Councillors - if you have emailed councillors then please send a copy of your text as a formal submission to the 2022 FDS email address; FutureDevelopmentStrategy@ncc.govt.nz

Thanks everyone who made submissions to the developers' Plan Change Request.  As stated above, the Resource Management Act process is underway and you can find information on what happens next at this link

We also encourage you to make donations directly to Save the Maitai Incorporated to assist with the cost of the RMA process including expert witness reports. Donations can be made via the bank account details on the home page of this petition, or via the campaign website www.savethemaitai.nz/donate or via the reinstated Givealittle page.
