Good morning everyone, we are just shy of 20 signatures until we reach 3,000 signatures! Thanks to Burke’s Books, who has been collecting signatures on a printed version of this petition located in their store, we got to see the addition of 66 signatures today! Many know the Booksellers at Laurelwood as just a bookstore, which is what it’s most well-known for; however, there are several more aspects of Booksellers that many may not know about. For instance, the Bronte Bistro is a meeting place for lunch groups and food lovers alike. For others, it’s a great place to grab a quick snack and read a good book. Finally, for some, it’s simply an excuse to stay at Booksellers. Booksellers also has a dedication to supporting Memphis authors and companies. Countless Memphis authors will tell you themselves that their very first book signing was at Booksellers and/or that Booksellers was the first bookstore to carry their book. They also support other local businesses by carrying products from locally-grown Memphis businesses, like the Wolf River Popcorn Co. (the Memphis BBQ Mix is the best kind by the way). For parents, Booksellers gives them the chance to browse for books while they let their kids play and explore kid’s books in the designated children’s area. It’s great for the parent because they can relax a little, while looking at books and it’s great for kids because they can develop a passion for reading while having some fun. The magazine and newspaper selection located in the middle of the store is just about the most extensive of any store in Memphis. They constantly update selections and provide their readers with a vast variety of reading material from across the nation. Whatever your reason for supporting Booksellers, I thank you for supporting this petition and hope to continue to do so as we continue to use our momentum to seek out local investors and encourage them to consider saving Booksellers.
