Woohoo! With the signatures from this online petition and the 80+ signatures from Burke’s Books, we have officially reached 3,000 signatures! This is a major advancement in the pool of support we have garnered and I know we can continue to grow even more! I know I’ve been fairly quiet on specifically what I want to do to help Booksellers, but below you’ll find how we plan on saving Booksellers. We’ve been given a deadline to viably grow support for Booksellers, February 14th, and then we will wait and see how this situation plays out. We’ve got one last chance to make an impression on potential local investors and I know we can do just that. New Website Change.org has been a wonderful platform for growing support for our beloved bookstore, but it has limitations. For one, updates posted to this petition are placed at the bottom of the website, which only further covers up the wonderful comments you have all left when you signed the petition. Additionally, I’m only allowed to put a link to one news article every time post an update. So, to solve those problems, I’ve decided to create a website dedicated to just this petition: https://emsfilm.wixsite.com/booksellerspetition On the website, you’ll foremost find the petition, which you’ll easily be able to send people to via the website. There’s also a section with every news article written about either Booksellers or this petition. I still have a few more news articles to add, but if you see any I’m missing, let me know at savebooksellers@gmail.com. Finally, on the very last tab, labeled “What You Can Do,” you’ll find a detailed schedule of what we’re planning for February 14th as the details are finalized. The unique part about this section is that I’ll be able to update it throughout the day instead of just once a day with the Petition Updates. So, through the website, you’ll be able to get the latest updates about what we’re planning. Show Your LOVE for Booksellers-February 14th February 14th, as it has been announced, will be the last day that the Booksellers at Laurelwood will be open to the public. Please note this does not mean that Booksellers will be permanently closed starting February 15th. Instead, this date is set as when the liquidation sale ends and a new, unknown period for Booksellers begins. As I’ve always said, there is still hope. February 14th is Valentine’s Day and what better way to show your true love (books of course) how much you care, by showing up and supporting our beloved store. I am currently trying to plan a special event in the afternoon/evening at Booksellers. Imagine if we could get a thousand people to show up at Booksellers and celebrate all that Booksellers has been to them and so many more. That’s less than a third of the people that have signed this petition. And to clarify, this is not necessarily a farewell party, instead it is a celebration of all the wonderful people that work at Booksellers, the memories that this store holds, its importance to our community, and the special place it will always share in our hearts. With this celebration, I hope to be able to show the immense level of support Booksellers has in this community. Signatures on a petition are one thing, but people actually showing up to support Booksellers is quite another. So, please set aside a little time in the afternoon/evening of February 14th to come and show your love for Booksellers. Social Media Campaign What can you do right now? Social media is an extremely potent method of communication and I fully believe in using it to share news quickly. So today, right now, I’d like to start a social media campaign of love for Booksellers. You can join in the campaign by doing any of the following things: 1. Post “I <3 Booksellers” on any social media platform you might use. 2. Share a story on social media involving Booksellers that changes or touched your heart. Be sure to use the tag #I<3Booksellers 3. OR encourage your friends to show up at the LOVE Booksellers event on February the 14th!
