The Issue

Vulcan Materials is submitting a proposal to Fairfax County to be allowed to build an asphalt plant at their Edsall Road (Springfield, Fairfax County, VA) site. This site is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and schools. As neighbors living here, we are concerned that an asphalt plant in this location would have a negative affect on our health, home values and quality of life.

We elected our Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to be our voice. When Vulcan tried to build this asphalt plant eight years ago, the community spoke up with a resounding, "No!"

Again, we say, "No!" to this asphalt plant, and we exhort Fairfax County to deny approval. County revenue cannot come at the expense of neighbors'  quality of life, health or home values.

Responded
Thank you for sharing your concerns about a potential Vulcan asphalt plant on Edsall Road substation. No application has yet been submitted to the County. If one is submitted, as it would be a land use matter in the Mason District, I will coordinate with Supervisor Jimenez and will take your concerns on the application into consideration. Sincerely, Jeffrey C. McKay Chairman Fairfax County Board of Supervisors [Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters. The above was an email response we received regarding this petition.]
