Dear all,
Apologies it's a little while since the last update but to be honest and disappointingly little has happened. The council are now engaged but the responses are inadequate as limited progress being made and everything is being blamed on the weather.
Cricket square is still unprotected and now just another area for football, we really hope that cricket is not lost at the park but with the condition of the square we can't see how it will be safe for this season. Council will not protect it as they see a rope as a tripping hazard - we been having asking for their risk assessment since last year and still nothing.
The lost football pitch/outfield is still damaged and dangerous, we have been promised this will be dug up and relaid - but instead this week someone has dragged a rake over it and randomly thrown seed about. We are very confused this will become just muddy patches again, but at least they have stopped marking a football pitch that is never used.
A security bollard is still missing at the entrance - leaves the park open to unauthorised vehicular access and last year we saw people driving vehicles on to erect bouncy castles and marquees. The risk for injuring a member of the community who will not be expecting a vehicle in the park is high or it could attract the traveler community.
Football pitch layout for 24/25 season is still uncertain - without this we can't go forward with positioning the outdoor gym, securing the funding and getting it installed. We have been asking for the pitch layout for many months so we can make the best use of our space for all park users and we are still chasing.
Improving the park is still a priority and we are not asking for more money to be spent (we recognise the council'c financial position) we are just asking for the existing budget to be spent efficiently.
This engagement with the council is now being led by the friends group on behalf of all park users. The AGM is on 25th March in the Gather Inn new ideas are always welcome to make Wish Park the best space possible for our community, please attend.
