Thank you for your continued support. Here is an update on how the pandemic is impacting our loved ones behind the wall.
People who are incarcerated are people, with human rights, dignity, and healthcare needs. The ACLU Foundation of CT has reached a settlement with CT DOC. While the compromise is respectable we need you to sign and share this petition then follow up with a letter to Elonna Bildner or Dan Barrett at the ACLU, 765 Asylum Avenue, Hartford CT 06105 demanding for specificity with conditions 6 thru 10 by July 13th to be co side red at the zoom video hearing to consider the conditions on July 20, 2020 10am.
6. Adequate amount of hygiene products, PPE, and cleaning antiseptic supplies: Lisa jail soap irritates and damages their skin and is not fit to wash a dog. $1.82 gets an inmate a bar or dove soap. Toilet paper is 55 cents after the 2 free rolls allotted to our loved ones. 24 pads or 18 tampons can cost upwards to $5.42. Tylenol is $2, Medical And dental appointment are $3. Preventative annual physicals and dental cleanings are not routine. 15 minute calls cost $4. We cannot claim our loved ones as dependents but the state is inadequate and downright neglectful with only providing “work” that amounts to $21 a month but no job reference or job offer once released back to their community.
7. Adequate time: 90 minutes to clean and sanitize the cell daily that does not interfere with the needed sleep, recreational time, or chow that nourishes their mind, body, and spirits (after 11am).
8. A shower at least every other day: a shower every day no matter virus status. Can you imagine being a menstruating female, pregnant mother, or sick person and having to wait until tomorrow to be able to shower clean and cool off?!
9. Consideration of 65yo with consideration of crime and 50% of time served: Fast track consideration and release of our loved ones who are 60 years of age+ and/or have medical 3 conditions ( Ex. respiratory issues, hypertension, and diabetes) regardless of alleged crime committed or time served or placed in a place of care with the least chance of being susceptible at contracting the virus.
10. Effective until December 31,2020: Keep this pandemic measure in place until an effective vaccine is created and available.
Keep safe and healthy!
