Mara Ganeles started this petition to Governor Ned Lamont and

This is a request that all dance studios in CT be included in Phase One now that hair salons are on the list, that decision makes even more sense and that would allow a soft reopening on May 20th 2020. Studios should be allowed to open with restrictions in place just as hair salons, nail salons and massage business . Dance is an equally vital service for mental and physical health.

Thousands of studios were forced to close their businesses and postpone or cancel events, recitals and competitions. This has had a tremendous negative impact on the entire industry nationwide. Many teachers and studio owners do not meet the standards for unemployment, and both the EIDL and PPP loans are gone and without the ability to continue lessons they will surely have to close their doors indefinitely or permanently. This is not acceptable.

We are suggesting the following guidelines, restrictions and recommendations:

Guidelines for teachers:

*No use of ballet barres or props of any kind.

•Wash hands, and use sanitizer before each lesson.

•No reading material or self serve food/beverages.

*Only individual students having a lesson can enter the studio .

*Class sizes limited to sq foot of room. 1 person per 100 sq feet of space or for ballroom dance, 1 student per teacher per room.

*Temperature checks at door.

*10 min gap between lessons for sanitizing, and safely transitioning.

*Sanitize door handles between lessons.

* Teachers to wear masks

Restrictions for dancers:

•Must not have anyone in the household that has traveled to any major hot spots  for 14 days.

•Must be fever-free and symptom free for a complete 72 hours.

-Clients need to wait in their cars until previous clients have left. Teachers will be at each entrance before and after lessons.

Recommendations for dancers:

•Wash hands/use sanitizer immediately before and after lessons

•Wear masks during lessons

*No bare feet. Proper footwear at all times.

Allow the dance studios to safely get back to work in Phase One, to save their businesses, and boost morale of clients and provide much needed safe physical activity for their students of all ages. There are too many people feeling defeated and alone, particularly those of us who live on our own. Dance is scientifically proven to be highly beneficial to the body and the mind for the children and adults who depend on it. We need our studios. Dance studios make a difference, the arts do matter. Let them open their doors again in Phase One on May 20th, 2020 so we can continue our passion and maintain good positive mental and physical health.

Thank you!
