Reduce UNT Tuition for Spring Semester

Reduce UNT Tuition for Spring Semester
The Issue
Students at the University of North Texas are being extremely affected by the COVID-19 virus. Students paying for on campus, in-person classes are now receiving an online education and being denied the resources that they continue to pay for.
- Computers and Wi-Fi
- Non-refundable, prepaid meals
- Printing services
- Regular tutoring hours
- Prepaid parking passes (up to $1,200 annually)
Along with these things, classes that have been prepared by professors to be taught in person for months or years, are now being thrown together to be able to meet the minimum standard of what the curriculum asks for. For example, semester long projects that include interpersonal group work, are now being reduced into Canvas discussion boards where immediate feedback is not given. This makes the learning process much less efficient.
There are also mandatory fees for on-campus resources that are now shutdown. For example, each student pays $21.00 per hour for library services. The library is open 24 hours a day. However, during this shutdown, the library has reduced hours that do not work for many students that also may work or have other responsibilities. The same could be said for the Student Union, recreational centers, and athletic fees that are also being paid during this shutdown.
By signing this petition we are asking that the University of North Texas for a reduction in student tuition and fees for the 2020 Spring Semester.
