Without actually asking residents of Yadkin county, other than hosting a short evening meeting where "concerns would be heard" the Town commissioners and/or the NCDOT arbitrarily decided what was in the best interests of those who live in Yadkinville.

While roundabouts are great at preventing serious crashes, they may bring on more non-fatal wrecks, to believe the latest in traffic-circle research coming from the fecund roundabout reserve of Wisconsin.  But we don't have many serious crashes in Yadkinville - so expect your vehicle to be hit and damaged more frequently if you drive 601...

NCDOT is going to destroy existing traffic and businesses by creating not one, not two, not three (incredible) but FOUR new traffic circles on the ONLY existing main traffic avenue (Highway 601) which runs through Yadkinville.  Instead of considering less costly solutions, or even trying them first, they wish to spend millions of YOUR taxpayer money to completely redesign traffic patterns. 

There is NO reason for these "circles".  The traffic at rush hour, like EVERY other place in America... gets backed up.  But those few hours in a day are the ONLY times there is some congestion in the areas in question... if at all. 

ALL major government and private studies state the #1 reason to NOT install roundabouts on main thoroughfares is when there are no alternative parallel routes (which is exactly what we have here!!!!).  We guess government doesn't need to follow it's on research and data?  It is completely beyond absurd they would want to put traffic circles in spite of all the compelling reasons NOT to.

While roundabouts can help flow, instead of putting up signs that restrict left turns into/out of Sheetz, McDonalds, and Food Lion at PEAK rush hour times.... they have ARBITRARILY decided what is best for Yadkinville... and the town's commissioners didn't even blink an eye at the proposal.   (So just who is going to benefit from a multi-million dollar project like this, we wonder?  Obviously some people are going to pad their pockets on this.  We all know how government works!!!)

These foreign, non-Yadkin county engineers want to put at these locations:
- just south of 421, just past the overpass
- just north of 421, just past the overpass
- one at the shell station
- one at Lee Avenue

All the north-south traffic will DOMINATE and CRUSH these circles. East/West traffic will NEVER be able to get into them during peak times!  Again, all major government and private studies state the #1 reason when roundabouts should NOT be installed is on main thoroughfares where there are no alternative parallel routes (which is exactly 601).

HOW are large semi-tractor trailers supposed to navigate these circles???  There is NOT enough room available to make these circles large enough, unless they plan on demolishing all businesses and homes on one side of 601!

Emergency vehicles, which frequently are on 601... do NOT have right of way in a roundabout!  The rule for roundabouts, WITHOUT exception, is ALL traffic already in the circle has TOTAL right of way. Good luck if you need fire or ambulance and it has to wait and navigate 4 of these monstrosities!!!

NCDOT could EASILY just put up signs saying "NO LEFT TURNS, 7-9AM and 4-6PM. That would solve any and all the problems more easily than any roundabout.

And for Pete's sake... EXTEND THE CENTER TURN LANE all the way down 601 from 421 to Lee Avenue. That would fix the Food Lion bottlenecks they created when they re-did around Lee Avenue the last time (which was another failed NCDOT project).

They already removed lanes from 601 when they made the dead-bike path (which nobody in Yadkin county has yet to use, so that's AGAIN another failed project costing NC taxpayers millions of dollars.

So PLEASE VOICE YOUR DISAPPROVAL if you think 4 roundabouts will destroy any traffic flow down the ONE and only main traffic street through Yadkinville.  Please promise that if they install these monstrosities, you will always drive around the circle 2 or 3 times before exiting - as an ongoing protest.
