Those that come after us stand on our shoulders. Now is the time to give them the voice that we didn't have. As former collegiate football players I ask that you join me in addressing the dire need for mandated Covid-19 safety protocol. Currently existing are NCAA Covid-19 guidelines that most institutions have chosen not to follow. These guidelines are nothing more than suggestions. We need MANDATES.

On May 21st the NCAA Council unanimously approved voluntary activities for football and basketball beginning June 1st. Omitting all other fall and winter sports. With this decree the NCAA neglected to mandate Covid-19 safety protocol for the  return of student-athletes to campus. Instead they chose to release guidelines, leaving it up to each institution to follow to the best of their ability. The NCAA Council chair, M. Grace Calhoun, added "We encourage each school to use it's discretion to make the best decisions possible for football and basketball student-athletes within the appropriate resocialization framework". WHAT? Guidelines are like speed limits without police. 

This laissez-faire approach to college player's safety has resulted in hundreds of cases of COVID-19 throughout the country. This must stop! College football has put money over safety.
