An extra year of eligibility to be granted to collegiate Student-Athletes due to COVID-19

The Issue

Due to concern of the COVID-19 outbreak, a number of Colleges and Universities have decided to take precaution and cancel or suspend the remaining season of Spring Athletics. Although these decisions being made are in the best interest of public well being, student-athletes affected by these decisions should not have to suffer additional consequences, such as losing a year of their competitive eligibility. These student-athletes work tirelessly on and off the playing field, and to see all of their work go to waste will be nothing short of disappointing. I hope entities that help power college athletics realize the magnitude of this entire situation and the decisions being made. I hope this petition is recognized and persuades these entities to make the right decision by granting the student-athletes who have been affected by these actions and future actions, an extra year of their competitive eligibility.
