The purpose of this petition is to bring to light one of the lesser-discussed issues affecting our day-to-day peace and environmental health - excessive noise pollution from vehicles with extremely loud engines.  Many vehicle owners intentionally modify their engines to amplify noise thereby creating disturbances and harm in neighborhoods and public areas. According to the World Health Organization, excessive noise is harmful to human health and can lead to adverse psychological and physiological effects in children and adults. It is even more disturbing for individuals with PTSD. It also adds to the general noise pollution, which is a major environmental concern. Limiting engine noise is not just about maintaining peace and quiet, but also about respecting everyone's right to a comfortable and healthy living environment. We urge local legislators to implement stricter penalties and better technologies to fine owners who modify their vehicles to create excessive noise. It is against the law to have an excessively loud engine in North Carolina. Other states (or cities) are starting to take measures- such as portable noise detection trailers to collect data for citations.  We urge North Carolina policy makers to implement stricter measures.
