Fair Pay for NC Law Enforcement Officers

The Issue

If someone broke into your home, who would you call and expect to save you? A police officer. How much would you expect that officer to be paid to do so? Unfortunately, they are paid far too little. NC law enforcement officers continue to pay more and more for health insurance coverage but are not receiving pay increases to supplement this increase. Many officers have to work second jobs to try to make ends meet. This means that our officers are working twelve hour shifts on little to no sleep, which can impare their judgement. Increasing the minimum law enforcement salary to $85,000 a year would ensure that our officers are able to perform to the highest standards. Any future increases in health insurance premiums should be matched in an increase to officers' salaries. After all, we want the best officers to respond if we need to call for their help.
