Sunset Gardens is a cemetery located in Henderson, NC 27567. Recently the cemetery has fallen under new ownership and is now managed by the new owner, Ricky Pearce. Since taking over Mr. Pearce and manager Allison Pearce made the decision to enforce rules that many did not know existed. This included removing items placed around headstones that grieving families had previously placed in honor of their loved ones. In some cases it was simply a flag, lights, or faux flowers not housed in a vase; however, in other cases, it was trinkets and sacred mementos that loved ones left in remembrance of the relationships they cherished with their sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, and so on. Mr. Pearce gave no true warning to these families that rules that had not been enforced for more than a decade would be reinstated by the cemetery. All items that did not fall within the guidelines were simply collected by Mr. Pearce or his designees and tossed in the garbage, many items that could not possibly be replaced. This behavior is immoral, reprehensible, and one of the most disrespectful acts I have ever encountered. When a loved one passes away not much comfort can be attained. The little comfort felt from these mementos and keepsakes has been robbed and the peace of laying our loved ones to rest has been disturbed. It is my goal to have Mr. Pearce and any member of the Pearce family forgo his investment into Sunset Gardens and transfer ownership to a member or members of the community that will show respect to not only our loved ones but also to their surviving heirs.
