Kia ora e hoa mā, Can you believe that we’ve hit 60,000 signatures. INCREDIBLE. I want to sincerely thank you for your patience over the past few weeks & your continued support of our petition. As a person, mother, Māori woman & a filmmaker I’ve continually used my platform as a way to highlight my kaupapa which is the restoration of mana to Indigenous peoples. I’ve been fortunate in my work as a storyteller to walk with Indigenous people the world over as well as Indigenous changemakers across the planet & we’ve shared stories of our common struggle to be considered equal & treated with respect & dignity on our own lands. This is why I started this petition. It’s about equality. It’s about mana. It’s about the impact that words of this nature have on the mindset of people when they interact with my beautiful brown skinned son. It’s personal. We are still here. I am not a political expert & navigating this space has been a learning curve so I’m pleased to announce that successful & experienced campaigner Laura O’connell Rapira of ActionStation has come on board to support so we can achieve wider results around racism in Aotearoa. Supporting alongside is Indigenous Rights advocate & campaigner Kera Sherwood O’Regan. So what next? The goal is to deliver our petition on the steps of NZ Parliament shortly & we want you there!!! We are currently working on a date with mana wahine MP & lawyer Kiritapu Allan who has agreed to receive our 60,000 signatures. Aku mihi e te uri o Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi me Tūwharetoa iwi. PETITION DELIVERY DATE - Keep an eye on your email as I'll be sending the date shortly & a Facebook event page will be set up once we have this secured so you can register your attendance. Please seriously consider coming. Our message is more powerful if we are there to deliver it together - in the thousands. Imagine. Kia kaha! In the meantime, we need you to fill in a quick 2 minute survey which will help us determine why you signed this petition & what issues are important to you so that we can represent your voice effectively. Laura has informed me that generally only 15% of petition signers will fill in a survey but I think we can do better than that right?! Let’s aim for 80%. We are trying to make lasting change after all - SO PLEASE, click on the link, take a quick moment & let’s change our country for the better -TOGETHER. Ma tini ma mano ka rapa te whai. By many, by thousands, the work will be accomplished. Mana ora tātou, nā Renae, Laura & Kera
