Stop torturing us with Tim, Elfi, & Al; give us ASac & Shannon Miller
Stop torturing us with Tim, Elfi, & Al; give us ASac & Shannon Miller
The Issue
For years (and years and years) gymnastics fans have had to suffer through annoying, negative, and uninformed commentary from Tim Daggett, Elfi Schlegel, and Al Trautwig. As fans, we are tired of only hearing negative comments about our favorite gymnasts, tired of hearing about manufactured drama between athletes and/or their coaches, and also tired of these so-called "credible" analysts proclaiming certain gymnasts champions before they've even competed thereby putting unnecessary pressure on them to perform or else they're deemed failures ; plus from the many years Al Trautwig has been commentating on gymnastics, you'd think he'd be able to tell when it's a stuck landing. After hearing BBC commentary from the 2012 Olympics with Shannon Miller, it struck me how completely different the tone was. Shannon was positive, yet still pointed out flaws, used proper gymnastics terminology for each skill the gymnast was displaying at the time, and showed a genuine enthusiasm for all the athletes performing. It was refreshing. If we could have a combination of that from Shannon Miller, plus the incredibly entertaining, open, outspoken, and undoubtedly fan favorite Alicia Sacramone, it would add the perfect amount of color and content to every gymnastics competition. Come on, two of the most decorated American gymnasts of all time talking gymnastics? What could be better?
